Philosophy

I’ve worked with people who are very judgmental about their past, but I believe we become who we are through our experiences. You don’t always get to choose the experiences and situations you’re put into, especially when you’re young. But our journeys teach us things. That’s one thing I focus on very strongly in my counseling – what are you learning from your journey?

I focus on solutions – Because therapy shouldn’t last forever

One thing that sets me apart from other therapists you might have worked with before is that I focus on solutions. Therapy shouldn’t go on forever. We’ll set goals about how you want your life to be different, then we’ll work toward those goals. You’ll see and track your progress. There is light at the end of the tunnel. Together – we’ll find it!

Get back to your old self (or your new self) – Outside!

Another thing you’ll find different about me is that I focus on nature-based therapy. What I mean by that is that we’ll likely be outside during our sessions. We can go for a hike or just sit outside in the sunshine. With kids, sometimes we’ll plant a garden. The point is that being out in nature calms people, gives them perspective, and helps them heal.

There’s a lot of perspective to be gained in nature. For example, a tree grows. If something bad happens to it, it keeps on growing. Nature doesn’t worry. Nature doesn’t judge. It just is. We can learn a lot from that.

When we step out into nature, people can walk away from the busyness of their lives – phones, schedules, jobs, responsibilities. All the things that make our lives crazy – those are all man made. Being outdoors makes it easier to connect with the peace and goodness that’s inherent inside each one of us, just like it is in nature.
